A cheap January transfer to Chelsea for Vasco da Gama midfielder Andrey Santos is reportedly close to happening.
Andrey Santos, a midfielder for Vasco da Gama, is reportedly close to joining Chelsea in January on a cheap deal.
The Blues have had difficulty in the early half of 2022-2023. Thomas Tuchel was replaced as head coach by Graham Potter, and things looked promising at first. Under the former Brighton manager, the Stamford Bridge team won three straight Premier League games.
However, they entered the World Cup break with just two points from their previous five Premier League games and no victories.
The west Londoners will be seventh in the standings when the season returns in late December having dropped their final three games before the break.
Todd Boehly, the new owner, appears ready to support his management.
The club has been associated to numerous players. Santos, who is 18 years old, has also been added to the list as a new name.
On Tuesday, Le10Sport in France was the first to report Chelsea’s interest in the South American.
They claimed that the capital club was in advanced talks to acquire him for just €15 million. And according to Sport Witness, journalist Jorge Nicola responded to the news.
While there are allegedly “advanced negotiations” with Chelsea, according to the Brazilian who claims to have spoken to Santos’ entourage, they “didn’t close.”
However, it seems as though the prospect of a deal is progressing quickly.
Paulo Bracks, a Vasco executive, will return to Brazil later this week, according to Nicola. And the transaction ought to be performed in his presence.
Santos has excelled for the team from Rio de Janeiro, scoring eight goals in 33 appearances in Serie B this season.
The promising player has received four caps for the Brazil Under-20 team and has scored twice for the young Brazilians.
But it appears that he is prepared to follow in the footsteps of so many Brazilians and take the next step.
The Rio-born ace has been connected to several teams. Barcelona was seen as being interesting.
Sport, a Spanish news publication, claimed last week that the Catalans required “additional time” to pay for the transfer.
That made it possible for Newcastle United to sign the gifted con artist.
After a stellar stretch of play, Eddie Howe has led the Magpies to third place in the Premier League.
He has the resources to contend for the best players. Additionally, it was said that the Tynesiders will “bid aggressively” for Santos.
However, Le10Sport’s assertion that only €15 million might be exchanged for the trade to be completed undermines Howe’s purchasing power.
According to Jorge Nicola, Santos’ cost was significantly lower than the anticipated €35 million because of his playing method.
He plays defensive midfield, whereas offensive midfielders are more expensive and in high demand.
That is wonderful news for Chelsea, who might well be able to get a gifted youngster for a greatly reduced cost.
Other teams have also been mentioned in connection with the player, including Paris Saint-Germain, Wolves, and Aston Villa.
If the claim is to be believed, Chelsea seems to have every advantage.
Newcastle, though, might still have a role in the outcome given that St. James’ Park is a popular destination due to its high standing.
