According to journalist Pete O'Rourke, who spoke with GiveMeSport, Brentford striker Ivan Toney could be a target for Chelsea.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Chelsea could consider signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

Toney has been linked to several clubs, including Newcastle United. His excellent form for the Bees put him in contention for a place in England’s World Cup squad. However, some off-field issues have hampered his progress, and Gareth Southgate has decided to leave him at home.

Toney, on the other hand, has scored some notable goals for Brentford. According to journalist O’Rourke, Toney will now be on Graham Potter’s radar at Chelsea.

“In the long run, I believe Chelsea will try to sign a number nine, most likely this summer.” According to O’Rourke, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang isn’t a long-term solution due to his shape and possibly his age.

“As a result, I believe Chelsea will look at him [Toney].” If you’re looking for Premier League strikers who are perhaps easier to acquire than others, Ivan Toney undoubtedly enters the picture.

Chelsea has been looking for a new number nine for some time. Several high-profile signings, most notably Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, have been a letdown. Toney has previously been described as “very dangerous” by Graham Potter.

Meanwhile, Newcastle is making good progress under Eddie Howe. A transfer for Toney at some point could greatly benefit the team.

In the case of Ivan Toney, the sanctions he receives could have a significant impact. He is clearly prepared to advance to a European club. However, there are still some reservations.

You can see why Chelsea likes him based solely on his football abilities. You can understand why Newcastle might like him as well.

However, it will be prohibitively expensive. Toney is vital to Brentford, so any trade will almost certainly involve a sizable sum. Of course, Chelsea would pay it because Todd Boehly wants to make a good impression.
