According to reports, Graham Potter has assurances that a deal will be struck for Christopher Nkunku to join Chelsea.
Graham Potter has reportedly received assurances that a deal will be made for Christopher Nkunku to join Chelsea.
Todd Boehly reportedly informed Potter that the transfer of the RB Leipzig forward is almost complete, according to TEAMtalk.
Boehly is obviously eager to expand on the star-buying binge he engaged in over the summer by bringing more players to Stamford Bridge.
Since taking over for Roman Abramovich, the American owner has continued to place a high priority on Nkunku.
The France international appears to be the latest footballing gold the Chelsea manager will soon claim.
According to Fabrizio Romano, there is already a verbal agreement between Chelsea and Leipzig.
All that needs to be resolved, it seems, is when the attacker will relocate to South West London.
It makes sense that Potter would want Nkunku to join his team in January as he seeks to address his team’s scoring issues.
The 25-year-old has 17 goals and four assists so far this season alone.
Leipzig does not want to lose their primary shooters in the middle of the season for this reason.
Due to his striker’s prowess in front of goal, Marco Rose is still vying for Champions League qualification.
But if they agree to pay Nkunku’s £53m release clause, Rose’s employers might not be able to fend off Chelsea’s advances.
After the World Cup, Boehly’s rebuilding project might get another brick in the foundation if he pays the price.
Todd Boehly’s scouting mission is ruined by Christopher Nkunku’s injury amid the Chelsea transfer agreement
Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig has been disqualified from the World Cup just days before it begins in Qatar.
The France international was a member of Didier Deschamps’ 26-man World Cup roster, but he is out this weekend as a result of a knee injury. Nkunku, who has scored 17 goals in 23 games for RB Leipzig this season, has impressed and was predicted to be one of the top players at the World Cup.
As previously reported by football.london, the 25-year-old attacker has already signed a pre-contract agreement with the Blues in anticipation of a potential transfer in time for the 2023–24 season. Over the next month, Todd Boehly and Chelsea scouts will be keeping an eye on a number of players who compete for their respective countries in Qatar as they make preparations to support Graham Potter in the January transfer window.
A £52 million release clause in Nkunku’s new contract with Leipzig from the summer would have allowed him to leave at the conclusion of the 2022–23 season. The 25-year-old has reportedly already undergone a “secret medical” with the Blues, and a pre-contract agreement is in place after Boehly said he would be willing to trigger the Frenchman’s release clause next summer, according to reports.
Nkunku’s performance for Les Bleus at the World Cup would have been of interest to Chelsea supporters, but his tournament is already over after suffering a serious knee injury just days before the competition began on Sunday.
France provided an update on the 25-year-old’s health in a statement that read: “After suffering an injury during Tuesday’s training, Christopher Nkunku will not be able to compete in the World Cup.
The RB Leipzig striker left the Tuesday training session early due to a left knee injury. Unfortunately, the radiological tests done that evening determined that it was a sprain.
The package of Christopher Nkunku was recorded by Didier Deschamps. Since the list was submitted on Monday at 7 p.m., a medical file has been sent to FIFA, which is a legal requirement for the replacement of an injured player in the squad.
“Once FIFA has verified the medical file, the name of Christopher Nkunku’s replacement will be announced. Christopher is sad, and everyone here wishes him a speedy recovery.
